Two weeks ago, Microsoft unveiled Silverlight, a rich web content development language that competes with Flash. Today at Mix07, Microsoft revealed several additional features, and viewers apparently walked away quite impressed.
Google unleashed a new API for its mobile search, which uses an approach similar to the new Yahoo oneSearch, in which content is grouped towards the top based on relevancy. In other words, if the search term is more relevant to photos, then photos top the search results page.

Is the Page View a fading metric in evaluating the worth of web properties? Steve Rubel says yes, and he gives it until 2010. The widgetization of the web, he says, will gradually render the page view metric obsolete.
Several Yahoo web sites that have recently launched do not contain RSS feeds. Steve Rubel suggests that we may see a trend back away from RSS feeds as sites try to get more eyes on their advertisements.
Over 30% of federal spending in nanotechnology goes toward military research and applications, according to this article. In 2000, annual DoD investment in nanotechnology was $70 million. In 2006, it has ballooned to $436 million.
Israel is using nanotechnology to create a "hornet-sized" flying robot that will be able to "chase, photograph, and kill its targets". Other weapons that use nanotechnology are also being developed to address terrorism.
